Should a Coach break a Client’s Resistance to Open Up?
While working with one of my clients he suddenly got upset and said that as a coach I should break his resistance to open up or even to explore deeper. I was puzzled at first but then I intuitively decided against his suggestion.
Here is why.
Many times when I am at a loss I remember and reflect the teachings of my guru, HDH Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam, who simply has an answer or suggestion for everything. For example, when my guru works with his disciples especially when we request a blessing and we are not open to receive it, nothing happens. The inflow of goodness is blocked. He explains that it is against the ethical conduct of enlightened souls to force something on someone if they do not wish to receive. Thinking about it I can see it goes against the principle of ahimsa or non-violence, one of the yogic principles.
So should we coaches coax or convince a client to give up resistance? No! The client has the freedom to open up or stay closed; it’s his or her choice. Spiritual teachings are of the highest kind, most beneficial to us, and the best guidelines to embrace. My client was not ready to open up and flower; perhaps another time. Simple as this.
